Text Box: A very warm welcome back to everyone and it is great to see the school buzzing with activity after the summer break. Even though we have only been back just over two weeks there have been a number of matches and educational visits for children of all ages.

I hope that you have all had an opportunity to have a look around the school and see all the wonderful changes that took place over the summer holidays. We have two new computer suites, a new common room, the dining room has been refurbished as also have a number of classrooms and other areas of the school. In particular I would like to thank Mrs Leonora Hammond for many of the fabulous new photographs that are on display around the school. Not to be missed out the Pre-prep have been able to have a real boost to their resources with an emphasis being placed upon being able to use the outside environment to enhance their learning. All these changes and the introduction of subject based classrooms for the older children are having a positive impact on the quality of education that we provide.

Children in years 3 – 8 should have a new style organiser. Please use these to pass comments to the Form Teacher and to see what Prep has been set. In addition there is a page at the front where your child should have stated two or three targets they have set themselves for the term. Please look at these and discuss them with your child.

Finally, please can I draw your attention to two events coming up. Our Harvest Festival on Thursday 30th September at 9.00 a.m. in the Cathedral and a Year 5 Curriculum Evening which looks at the final two years at Prebendal and what we do to help your child to flourish. Year 6 Parents are also welcome to join us for the evening.

Open Day

The school is planning an open day for the public on Thursday 7th October. This will be widely advertised in the press and through fliers distributed around the area but it would be much appreciated if you have friends with children of the appropriate age please do invite them to come along. We are inviting visitors to join us for Assembly in the Cathedral at 8.45. a.m. and then come over to Highleigh where there will be coffee and the Head Master will give a short talk. This will be followed by tours around or the West Street site or the North Street site as appropriate.

Choristers

Four new probationers came into the choir at the beginning of term and on the first Sunday back, Alexander Mansfield was admitted by the Dean as a full chorister at a short ceremony at the main Sung Eucharist. The Organist is always keen to recruit new choristers and currently there are vacancies for probationers in the choir. If you know of anyone who has a son who is keen to be a cathedral chorister please invite them to the next chorister open day on Saturday 9th October. Full details of this event will be available nearer the time.

HMS Pinafore

Mr. Nason is organising an outing to the Festival Theatre to see this musical by Gilbert and Sullivan on Tuesday 16th November, a letter giving full details will be sent out soon. If you would like your child to take part in this outing, please let Mr. Nason know.

Uniform

We are trying to smarten up the appearance of our pupils to come in line with our 'new school'. Please help us by ensuring that your children are wearing their uniform correctly when leaving home and that their hair is neat and tidy. Shoulder length hair must be securely fastened back on health and safety grounds.
