The Prebendal School has been the choir school of Chichester Cathedral for more than 500 years. The Choristers board and are educated at The Prebendal and sing almost every day in the Cathedral, maintaining the tradition of choral services for which English Cathedrals are famous throughout the world.
Being A Chorister
Choristers start as 'Probationers' in Year 3 or 4 (age 7-9), and usually after one year they become full Choristers. Chorister Scholarships range from a minimum of 50% up to 100% of the school fees. Informal Chorister auditions can be arranged throughout the year for any boys from age 7 - no previous singing experience is necessary.
As well as their singing, the Choristers take a full and active part in the life of the School. They have piano lessons, which are provided free of charge, and each Chorister is expected to learn at least one other instrument. Most Choristers achieve major Music Scholarships to their senior schools.
Get in Touch
Do get in touch at any time to visit. The Organist & Master of the Choristers is Charles Harrison. He is happy to meet families for an informal audition, or an initial assessment of aptitude, and a chat about what is involved in being a Chorister at any time during the year.
