Our Pre-Prep educates boys and girls between the ages of three and seven in a lovely purpose built building called Highleigh. Classes are small (an optimum class size of 16) enabling a great deal of individual attention. Standards are high and there is a very friendly family atmosphere.
We provide a stimulating and caring environment in which children can feel secure and confident. There are close links to the Prep, some of whose specialist staff also teach in the Pre-Prep. As the whole school is on one site, the Pre-Prep children become familiar with the staff and routines of the Prep thus ensuring a happy successful transition. Pre-Prep children attend from 8:30am until 3pm and there is an option to pick up at 1:15pm after lunch. Children can also be dropped off at 8:15am for supervised care.
New Beach Sch0ol Status
We are pleased to say that The Prebendal has official Beach School status and this means the Pre-Prep children enjoy regular trips to the coast. We have broadened our curriculum to embrace outdoor learning and help the children make the most of exciting opportunities outside the classroom. Our children learn all about marine ecosystems, tides, coastal weather and how life operates on and around the beach itself. It is a fantastic way for children to grow in confidence and self-esteem away from the classroom!
The Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum principles are combined with traditional values to provide a broad and balanced curriculum and the staff report regularly to parents. Our approach to the teaching and learning of the basic skills of reading, writing, mathematics and science is very effective and gives our children solid foundations for future learning, encouraging them to become self motivated individuals.
Music is taught by a specialist and all children take part in concerts and performances throughout the year. Individual instrumental lessons may be arranged to take place in school. ICT features strongly and the School has a bank of up to date computers and software. In addition, a wide variety of clubs provide an opportunity for children to further explore many different areas of the creative and expressive arts. We also provide a reliable after school care facility available to all children from four years of age should parents wish their child to be looked after beyond the end of the school day.
The Pre-Prep children have their own playgrounds but also use the Prep School's facilities including the sports fields and the Pre-Prep pupils attend weekly assemblies in the Cathedral. Lunches are cooked on the school premises and are eaten, as a school family, in our dining room where good manners and consideration for others are encouraged. All dietary needs are catered for. The Pre-Prep Department has its own Head, who leads a strong team of dedicated teachers committed to giving each child the best possible start to their school life.
Trips & Outings
Our children also go a variety of trips and outings to enhance their learning. All the year groups take part in the Christmas play each year as well as Sports Day and Prize Giving.
