The Prebendal Young Writer of the Year 2019

Our popular story writing competition for children in Years 3-6 is back with this year's Young Writer of the Year.

Entrants should submit an original fictional short story in English of no more than 600 words. Entries will be judged on originality, story structure, characterisation, and imaginative use of language. On submission, the child must state their name, date of birth and current school year. The story can be either handwritten or typed.

The closing date for entries is Monday 3rd June 2019.

Entries should be emailed to or posted to Young Writer of the Year 2019, The Prebendal School, 52-55 West Street, Chichester PO19 1RT. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the awards ceremony at The Prebendal School on Friday 14th June 2019 at 7pm.

This Year's Special Guest
We will be delighted to welcome to our awards ceremony local author, Christopher Joyce, who has written The Creatures of Chichester book series. He is also founder of CHINDI, the network of independent authors in Chichester, and is the 2018 Cornish Writer of the Year.
