Year 3 visit Weald and Downland Museum

Posted on: 11 May 2023

This week, Year 3 visited the Weald and Downland Museum. We looked at lots of different buildings including a Victorian church, school, and bakery. We also took part in a workshop at the ‘Whitaker’s cottages’ where we learnt all about the family that used to live there in the Victorian times. We were amazed to find out that eight of the children shared a small bedroom and would sleep in the same beds to keep warm.

We also learnt all about the types of chores Victorian children used to do and had a go at some such as ironing, using a mangle to dry clothes, sweeping the floor and polishing boots. In the afternoon, we got to explore an Anglo-Saxon house (linking to our last history topic) and stroke some lambs - which was definitely a great way to end the day!
